LONDON (ICIS)--The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) said on Tuesday that it has launched a public consultation on the classification of petrochemical bisphenol A (BPA) following an amendment proposal from the French authorities.

Running until 11 October this year, the consultation is focused on the adverse effects on sexual function and fertility, rather than on developmental toxicity or other hazard classes. Details of the consultation can be found here.

BPA is primarily used in the production of epoxy resins, polymers, coating materials and polycarbonates, as well as in the processing of polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
