Commercial and specialty grade prices increased by €30-40/tonne in August, because of the €47/tonne rise in the August feedstock styrene contract price, which was followed later in the month by a €33-35/tonne increase in acrylonitrile (ACN).
Compounding grade prices settled earlier in August at an increase of €15/tonne, lower than the other grades because of competitively-priced Asian material being imported into Europe.
European producers kept prices compounding grade prices stable in order to sell additional volumes, a compounder said.
August is a traditionally quiet month as many players are absent from the market due to summer vacations, prolonging the price discussion process.
