LONDON (ICIS)--Merck KGaA has appointed James Stewart as its new chief information officer (CIO), the Germany-based specialty chemicals and pharmaceuticals firm said on Wednesday.

Stewart will take over as CIO on 1 October from Frederic Wohlwend, who is leaving the company.

Stewart joined Merck KGaA in 2011 to help develop the company’s pharmaceuticals business and drive the transformation of the company, it said. Before that, he was an executive with US-based pharmaceuticals major Merck & Co.
