SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Taiwan’s Formosa Plastics Corp (FPC) will be shutting its 800,000 tonne/year vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) facility in Mailiao for scheduled maintenance in September, a company source said on Thursday.

The turnaround is expected to last for a month, added the source. The specific timeline of the turnaround was not immediately available.

Supply of VCM in Asia has been curtailed by the decommissioning of a 400,000 tonne/year plant owned by PETRONAS-owned Vinyl Chloride (Malaysia).

FPC’s turnaround is expected to tighten VCM supply further and lend support to VCM and downstream polyvinyl chloride (PVC) prices in the near term, according to market players.
