HOUSTON (ICIS)--Eastbound transatlantic chemical freight rates rose $2-3/tonne in the past week on styrene traffic to Europe, brokers said on Friday.

Eastbound rates on 2,000-tonne shipments increased to $60-65/tonne (€46-49/tonne) from the previous $58-62/tonne.

Rates also edged up on 5,000-tonne cargoes for the second week in a row, to $45-47/tonne from $40-45 previously.

The latest report from the Odin Marine Group said freight rates had turned bullish because a pair of 5,000-tonne styrene shipments from Louisiana to Europe had caught the attention of ship owners.

Brokers who were unaware of the styrene shipments said rates had not changed.
