MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--Brazil’s Polinox, the largest manufacturer of organic peroxides in Latin American, has reached an agreement with composites molder MVC to supply raw materials for a $650m (€494m) government-backed construction project, Polinox said on Wednesday.

The Proinfancia project, promoted by the country’s education department, involves the construction of 1,400 day-care centres in nine Brazilian states, the company said.

The project will require a total of 45 tonnes of composites, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2014, Polinox said.

“It is always a source of pride to know that our products are specified by a company such as MVC,” said Polinox director Roberto Pontifex.

Polinox announced in June that it would increase the capacity of its plant in Itupeva, Sao Paulo, by 15% to just under 350 tonnes/month if demand increased in the second half of the year.

Organic peroxides, such as methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP), are raw materials widely used in the composites, chemical, plastics, paints and rubber industries.
