MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Malaysia’s Petronas Chemicals Group (PCG) has shut its butyl acetate (butac) unit in Terengganu as part of a major overhaul at its Kerteh petrochemical complex, a company source said on Friday.

The butac plant was shut earlier this week, the source said, adding that it was unable to give a specific day because all the units at the Kerteh complex were being taken off line in stages.

The plant is scheduled to be restarted in late October, following the completion of maintenance and safety checks, the source said.

Other butac makers in Asia include Korea Alcohol Industrial in South Korea, Celanese in Singapore, Shiny Chemical Industrial in Taiwan as well as Wuxi Baichuan Chemical Industrial and Jiangmen Handsome Chemical Development in China.
