SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Ningbo Aijing Chemical restarted its 150,000 tonne/year dioctyl phthalate (DOP) unit at Ningbo in Zhejiang province on 5 September, a source close to the company said on Friday.

The unit was shut on 23 August because of a shortage of raw materials, the source said.

The restart is unlikely to weigh on DOP domestic prices, as the unit’s output may be inconsistent, one market source said.

The source explained that the unit has been shut and restarted several times in this year because of cost and margins issues.

Domestic DOP prices in east China were assessed at yuan (CNY) 11,425/tonne ($1,867/tonne) EXWH (ex-warehouse) east China on 5 September, up by CNY25/tonne compared with CNY11,400/tonne on 2 September, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

China’s Ningbo Aijing Chemical is a key plasticizer producer at Ningbo in Zhejiang province.
