HOUSTON (ICIS)--US July exports of maleic anhydride (MA) fell by 4.0% year on year, according to data made available on Friday by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).
US July MA exports were 3,682 tonnes, down from 3,835 tonnes a year ago.
Month on month, US July exports of MA fell by 0.7% from 3,707 tonnes in June 2013.
Much of the decline came as US supply was tight because of several unplanned outages during the second quarter.
However, demand for US MA was strong, as it had a cost advantage during much of July owing to its cheaper feedstock.
Total July imports of MA were 944 tones, more than double the 438 tonnes imported a year ago.
Month on month, total MA imports were slightly higher than the 940 tonnes imported in June 2013.
