MEDELLIN, Colombia (ICIS)--US vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) exports for July increased by 10% from the same month a year ago, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday.
US exports increased to 106,170 tonnes from 96,680 tonnes in July 2012.
The increase was the result of an active construction sector, mainly in Latin America.
US activity is mainly domestic business, though there is a structural export flow into Latin America and some spot exports to Europe and Asia.
Month on month, exports rose by 16% to 106,170 tonnes from 91,764 tonnes in June, the ITC said.
Top destinations for US VCM exports were Mexico, Colombia and Canada.
Around 99% of VCM is used in the production of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and co-polymers.
Export parcels are usually sold in cargoes of 3,000-10,000 tonnes from the US.
US producers of VCM are Axiall, Formosa, Oxy Vinyls, OxyMar, Shintech and Westlake.
