US HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE exports fall in July year on year

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US high density polyethylene (HDPE) exports for July 2013 fell by 17% from the same month in 2012, according to data available from the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Friday

Exports of HDPE fell to 136,704 tonnes in July 2013 from 164,806 tonnes in 2012.

Mexico, Canada and Brazil purchased the most HDPE from the US, with Mexico increasing its imports taking 43% of exports for a total of 58,373 tonnes. Exports to Canada and Brazil both fell in July from a year earlier.  

US low density polyethylene (LDPE) exports for July fell by 7.2% from the same month in 2012, decreasing to 60,610 tonnes from 65,362 tonnes in July 2012.

The top three destinations for US material were Canada, Mexico and China, together taking about half of all the exports.

US linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) exports fell by nearly 17% year on year in July, decreasing to 56,822 tonnes in 2013 from 68,034 tonnes in July 2012, according to the ITC.

Mexico, Belgium and China were the top destinations in July 2013, together accounting for 55% of all US exports.  

Major US PE producers include Chevron Phillips Chemical, LyondellBasell, Dow Chemical, ExxonMobil, Westlake, INEOS, Total, Nova Chemicals and Formosa Plastics.
