US July ABS imports fall 4.1% year on year, exports rise 16%

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US imports of acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) fell by 4.1% in July from a year ago, according to data released Friday by the US International Trade Commission.

July ABS imports were 11,593 tonnes, compared with 12,091 tonnes a year ago. July imports decreased by 12.5% from June, when imports were 13,248 tonnes.

The biggest exporters of ABS to the US were South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico.

US July exports of ABS increased by 16% to 7,188 tonnes from 6,194 tonnes a year ago.

Compared with June, July exports fell by less than 1% from 7,237 tonnes. US producers exported the largest amounts of ABS to Mexico, Canada and Peru, the ITC reported.

Major US producers of ABS include INEOS ABS, SABIC, Styrolution and Styron.
