HOUSTON (ICIS)--US Momentive Specialty Chemicals and Germany’s plastics engineering firm Iserlohner Kunststoff-Technologie (ISK) have agreed to cooperate on Bakelite-brand thermoset resin applications in the North American market, Momentive said on Wednesday.

The partners will focus on applications in the automobile industry, where weight reduction and temperature management are key concerns, Momentive said.

Under the agreement, ISK will provide its technical expertise in Bakelite-materials, part production, mold design and molding process optimisation, Momentive said.

ISK is well known for its plastics engineering expertise in developing Bakelite thermoset resins for the European automotive market, Momentive added.

"The exclusive agreement reached with ISK helps us bring established technical solutions to customers in North America," said Cedric Ball, automotive business development manager for Momentive Specialty Chemicals.

Financial terms or sales targets were not disclosed.
