EU Jan-June chemicals trade surplus up 5.2% as exports rise 1%

LONDON (ICIS)--The EU chemical products trade surplus for January to June increased by 5.2% from the same period last year, official data showed on Tuesday.

The chemicals trade surplus rose to €58.6bn ($78.1bn) from €55.7bn in the same period of 2012, according to official EU statistics agency Eurostat.

Non-seasonally adjusted data showed that chemical exports from the EU27 increased by 1% year on year during the period to €138.7bn, while imports declined by 2% to €80.1bn.

Data for the 17-member eurozone showed a 3.8% year-on-year rise in the chemical products trade surplus to €63.5bn. Exports were up 1% to €157.6bn with imports flat at €94.1bn.

Eurostat’s figures are provisional and subject to frequent revision, the agency said.
