September MMA contract prices are at €1,810-1,840/tonne ($2,446-2,486/tonne) FD (free delivered) NWE (northwest Europe), and are €30-35/tonne above levels seen in the same month in 2012.
Demand is steady to slightly softer than it was in July and August, with a couple of buyers indicating their consumption has reduced by 10-15% in the last few weeks, as the peak coatings season draws to an end.
Supply is largely balanced with demand, although sources are split as to whether the market is leaning towards the long or tight side.
Fourth-quarter pricing nominations are expected to become clearer next week. One producer is seeking a €95/tonne hike, effective 1 October.
