SINGAPORE (ICIS)--The Port of Hong Kong was closed over parts of the weekend as Typhoon Usagi — which has killed nearly 25 people in southern China — headed towards the island, according to media reports on Monday.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the typhoon was likely to bring "severe" disruption to the city.
Freight rates within northeast Asia are not expected to be impacted by the typhoon, shipping sources said late last week, because of subdued demand for chemical cargoes in the region.
Freight rates for 3,000 tonne vessels from South Korea to Taiwan were assessed at $25-30/tonne (€18.50-22.20/tonne) during the week ended 20 September.
