Speaking on the sidelines of the 4th Annual GPCA Fertilizer Convention, the PIC source said the planned plant was still pending approval from the Bahrain government and awaiting a feedstock gas agreement.
The planned unit will have an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes of ammonia and 1.2m tonnes of urea. The urea will be for export and there may also be some surplus ammonia for export, the source said.
He added that the plant is planned to start up in 2018.
The GPCA Fertilizer Convention is being held in Dubai 22-24 September.
