PHOENIX (ICIS)--The formulation of polyurethane (PU) mould release processing aids is focused on environmental, health and safety issues and on corresponding innovation as the industry grows steadily in line with recovering economies around the world, an executive with Chem-Trend said on Tuesday.
The industry continues to develop environmentally friendly mould release agents with low content of volatile organic compounds (VOC) and high flash point, said Amanda Pugh, business development director for polyurethanes for Chem-Trend.
Raw materials and processes are evolving as market participants strive to innovate and improve formulations in the manufacture of mould release agents, Pugh said on the sidelines of the Polyurethanes Technical Conference, hosted by the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI).
Chem-Trend is increasing its product line to include more options with water-based mould-release products as a replacement for solvent-based materials.
The PU mould release sector began to recover in 2010 and is now gauged as healthy after the rough patch the industry underwent during the 2008-2009 economic crisis, Pugh said.
The conference runs through Wednesday.
