PHOENIX (ICIS)--The polyurethane (PU) industry needs to seek recognition for its products as a wide variety of PU applications are not familiar to consumers, Monica Karamagi, speaking on behalf of the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI), said on Tuesday.

The CPI outreach committee is advocating for the PU industry and must answer tough questions about the industry as well as educating the public about the benefits and safety of PUs, Karamagi said on the sidelines of the Polyurethanes Technical Conference hosted by the CPI.

The outreach committee is focused on informing the public, as well as regulators, about the usage, energy efficiencies and durability of PUs.

Karamagi is the chair of the outreach committee of the CPI and regional marketing and industry affairs manager of polyurethanes for Huntsman.

The conference runs through Wednesday.
