PHOENIX (ICIS)--The polyurethane (PU) industry is focusing on sustainability and energy efficiency, Richard Skorpenske, speaking on behalf of the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry (CPI), said on Tuesday.
PU foams are ideal materials to reduce air flow and improve insulation in buildings, Skorpenske said on the sidelines of the Polyurethanes Technical Conference hosted by the CPI.
PU products used for insulation and as adhesives and sealants in construction offer greater benefits when compared with alternatives, Skorpenske said.
The PU industry is addressing sustainability issues by meeting and exceeding requirements, providing solutions and continuously working to improve materials, while encouraging government participation in these initiatives, Skorpenske said.
Skorpenske is the member chair of the CPI sustainability committee and is also responsible for advocacy and sustainability with Bayer MaterialScience.
The conference runs through Wednesday.
