SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Panjin Northern Asphalt plans to start up a 400,000 tonne/year Group II base oils plant at Panjin in Liaoning province in October, a company source said on Wednesday.
The start up of the plant has been brought forward from the initial schedule of April 2014.
The company has been conducting trial operations at the plant since August 2013, the source said.
The plant will mainly produce Group II N70, N150 and N400 products, but the detailed product portfolio has not been finalised yet, the source said.
The plant will consume feedstock supplied by North Huajin Chemical Industries Group, added the source.
Group II base oils supply is expected to grow significantly in northeast China after the start-up of Panjin Northern Asphalt’s new plant, thus leading to increased price competition in the region, a base oils trader in the country’s northern regions said.
Panjin Northern Asphalt and North Huajin Chemical Industries Group are subsidiaries of China North Industries Group.
