SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shanxi Yangmei Fengxi Fertilizer Industry plans to restart its 280,000 tonne/year soda ash unit at Jishan in Shanxi province on 30 September as the market situation has improved recently, a company source said on Thursday.
The plant was shut for maintenance on 1 May as the company had suffered serious losses amid the bearish market at that time, according to the source.
The company plans to restart the unit as there is a boost in domestic demand for soda ash on the back of increased capacity in the downstream sectors such as flat glasses, the source added.
The producer currently has no availability of cargoes to offer to the market, according to the source.
Spot light-grade soda ash prices in north China were assessed at yuan (CNY) 1,380-1,450/tonne ($225-237/tonne) DEL (delivered) on 25 September, up by CNY100-130/tonne compared with CNY1,250-1,350/tonne on 1 September, according to data from Chemease, an ICIS service in China.
($1 = CNY6.12)
