CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--About 400 residents of Sao Francisco do Sul, in the state of Santa Catarina, have left the city after an explosion and fire at a fertilizer's warehouse, city officials said on Thursday.
The incident occurred at about 23:00 local time (21:00 GMT) Wednesday, officials said.
No one has been killed as a result of the explosion or fire, officials said.
City residents who live near the area were advised to stay in well-ventilated areas. Local schools and the city's commerce were closed on Thursday.
City, state and federal forces are working to contain the fire, city officials said, which has reached the warehouse’s supplies of ammonium nitrate – the chemical that exploded and led to the deaths and injuries at a fertilizer storage facility in West, ?xml:namespace>
Cause of the incident is unknown, officials said.
