SINGAPORE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsui Chemicals plans to shut its phenol/acetone plant in Chiba on 28 October for annual maintenance, a company source said on Friday.

The plant, which has a nameplate capacity of 190,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 114,000 tonnes/year of acetone, will remain off line until 30 November, the source said.

Mitsui Chemicals runs a separate phenol/acetone plant in Chiba, which has a nameplate capacity of 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 90,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

The company also runs a phenol/acetone plant in Osaka which can produce 200,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 120,000 tonnes/year of acetone.

Run rates at the three plants averaged at 90% capacity amid prevailing weak market conditions, the source said.
