HOUSTON (ICIS)--Jacobs is further expanding in South Africa with the acquisition of two companies, the US-based energy and petrochemicals engineering firm said on Tuesday.

Jacobs said that its South African joint venture, Jacobs Matasis, acquired the business and assets of Ilitha Projects and Ilitha Staffing.

The Cape Town-based Ilitha companies provide staffing, project management, and engineering, procurement and construction services to clients in the oil and gas, refining, chemicals, power, nuclear, metals and other industries.

The acquisition adds an engineering office in Cape Town and 161 professional services staff to Jacobs Matasis, bringing its personnel to more than 300 people.

Jacobs Matasis chairman E.M. Dipico added, “The acquisition strengthens our ability to compete with other major engineering and construction firms operating in southern Africa, with the goal of achieving growth in the sub-Saharan African market.”
