LONDON (ICIS)--Three miners died in Tuesday's accident at a potash mine in Germany’s Thuringia state, German potash major K+S said.

K+S said that the miners, who had initially been reported missing, died after routine blasting operations at its Unterbreizbach mine at around 13:00 local time set off carbon dioxide (CO2) gas.

Four workers have been rescued. Two of the rescued workers are receiving medical treatment, the company said.

Public prosecutors and the Thuringia state mining authority have began an investigation into the accident, Kassel-based K+S added.
