US propylene inventories fall slightly on lower operating rates

HOUSTON (ICIS)--US propylene inventories fell by 0.2% week on week for the week ended 27 September, according to government data released on Wednesday.

The US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said inventories of non-fuel refinery-sourced propylene fell to 3.131m bbl for the week ended 27 September, down from 3.137m bbl a week ago.

The decline ended a four-week run of inventory increases.

Inventories remain low, sources said, and are 31% lower year on year from 4.511m bbl for the week ended 28 September 2012.

The drop in inventories came along with US refinery operating rates falling to 89.0% for the week ended 27 September from 90.3% a week ago.

US refinery-grade propylene (RGP) was heard bid at 54 cents/lb ($1,190/tonne, €881/tonne) and offered at 63 cents/lb on Wednesday.
