BERLIN (ICIS)--Europe 2014 acrylates demand will depend on the state of the economy, an acrylates producer said on Sunday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 47th annual European Petrochemical Association (EPCA) meeting, the supplier said Asian demand would play an important role in global growth for the sector, but overall market health would depend on demand from the end-use construction sector and “the entire economy.”

“It very much depends on GDP,” the source added.

Acrylic acid is a key intermediate chemical used in the production of acrylic esters and resins. Ethyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, methyl acrylate, and 2-ethylhexyl acrylate are polymerised to become ingredients in paints, coatings, textiles, adhesives, polishes, and plastics.

The EPCA meeting runs from 5-9 October.
