SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Shaanxi Jintai Chlor-Alkali Chemical plans to shut its 100,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Shaanxi province on 9 October, a company source said on Tuesday.
Shaanxi Jintai will shut the unit for five days in order to facilitate the start-up of its new 150,000dmt/year caustic soda unit in the middle of October as the company completes the connection of the two units, the source said.
The company’s total caustic soda capacity will reach 250,000dmt/year with the new start-up, the source added.
According to market participants, with other local chlor-alkali plants operating at high rate, the new start-up may result in oversupply of local liquid caustic soda.
