SINGAPORE (ICIS) – China’s Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry has started construction of a 400,000 tonne/year polyethylene (PE) plant and a 450,000 tonne/year polypropylene (PP) plant at Ningdong in Ningxia province in late September, a company source said on Wednesday.
The plants are expected to come on stream in 2017, the source said.
A 1.4m tonne/year cracker, which takes naphtha and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) as feedstock, will be constructed simultaneously to produce olefin for feeding into the PE and PP plants, according to the source.
Naphtha and LPG feedstocks for the cracker will primarily come from its 4m tonne/year coal-to- liquid project at the same site.
Additionally, a 150,000 tonne/year ammonia plant and a 350,000 tonne/year aromatics plant will also be installed at that site, added the source.
Shenhua Ningxia Coal Industry is a subsidiary of China’s biggest coal producer Shenhua Group.
