SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Sinopec is likely to start up its new 600,000 tonne/year paraxylene (PX) plant in Hainan province in November this year, a company source said on Thursday.

“Currently, the plan is for the [PX] plant to come on stream in November this year,” the source added. “But with all new plants, the actual start-up timing might defer by 1-2 months from the initial plans.”

Sinopec will supply a large portion of the new PX unit’s output to Yisheng Petrochemical’s 2m tonne/year purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Hainan, according to several market participants.
