SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Hyundai Cosmo (HC) Petrochemical is currently running its two paraxylene (PX) units in Daesan at 70% and has no immediate plans to boost their operating rates amid poor price spreads, a company source said on Friday.

The company has been operating the two units - a 380,000 tonne/year No 1 unit and another 800,000 tonne/year No 2 unit - at 70% of capacity since early September because of the weak price spread between feedstock isomer-grade xylene and PX, the source said.

Hyundai Cosmo is not expected to boost the run rates at the two units until spreads improve, the source added.

Despite the lower operating rate at both the PX units, the company is still able to fulfil the minimum contractual requirements, with limited spot availability, according to the source.
