SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Tangshan Chlor-Alkali Co plans to shut its 400,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Hebei province around 15 October for 4-5 days of maintenance, a company source said on Friday.
The company will also begin preparations for the start-up of its 100,000dmt/year caustic soda unit in Tangshan city on 15 October, and the new plant is expected to start production in November, the source added.
The 400,000dmt/year caustic soda unit is currently operating at full capacity, the source said.
Tighter supply as a result of the unit shutdown is unlikely to cause liquid caustic soda domestic prices to rise significantly, because downstream demand tends to weaken as traditional peak production season draws to an end, a local market player said.
