SINGAPORE (ICIS)--JX Nippon Oil & Energy Corp will keep its Mizushima-based hydrodealkylation (HDA) unit shut for at least for the rest of October because of the fire that erupted at the upstream crude topper unit on 7 October, a company source said on Friday.

The HDA facility, which has a nameplate capacity of 100,000 tonnes/year of benzene, was shut at the same time as the affected 110,000 bbl/day crude topper unit at the firm’s Mizushima B refinery in Okayama prefecture, the source said.

Estimated production loss of benzene is at around 20,000 tonnes and JX reiterated that its customers are not affected by this outage.

At Mizushima A, JX operates reformer A, reformer B and a toluene disproportionation (TDP) unit, which are currently operating at normal rates, unaffected by the fire at Mizhushima B, he said.
