LONDON (ICIS)--Leading Russian phosphate-based fertilizer producer PhosAgro on Friday announced the opening of a trading arm in Singapore, which will focus on sales of mineral fertilizers to countries in Asia and Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
The new company – PhosAgro Asia Pte Ltd – is PhosAgro's first trading operation in Asia to focus on international sales of mineral fertilizers, the Moscow-based firm said in a short statement.
The trading arm's management team includes Iouri Piattchanine, "who has many years of experience selling natural resources and mineral fertilizers in Asia", and Maxim Popov, the former deputy head of the company's mineral fertilizer export sales division.PhosAgro CEO Andrey Guryev commented: "We see significant growth opportunities in Asia, and believe our new sales and trading subsidiary in Singapore will bring us closer to existing and potential clients. We chose to base our Asian operations in Singapore because of the well-developed financial and trade infrastructure, as well as the good business climate.
"PhosAgro Asia will market and sell PhosAgro products across the region, from Pakistan to Japan, in Australia and throughout southeast Asia, and will also focus on Africa. With a full-fledged trading operation in Singapore we have greater flexibility to work with a broader range of clients in these regions."He added in a speeh marking the opening of the new office: "We have been able to grow thanks to strategic initiatives and by refining our logistics model. First, we are constantly expanding capacities and modernising our production facilities
"Second, we have focused on increasing the flexibility of our production lines. This means significantly expanded our offerings of complex nitrogen phosphorus potassium (NPK), nitrogen phosphorus potassium and sulphur (NPKS) and nitrogen phosphate and sulphur (NPS) fertilizers, which improved our ability to provide exactly the nutrient mix needed for different types of soils and crops."
PhosAgro is considered the largest phosphate-based fertilizer producer in Europe, the largest producer of high-grade phosphate rock worldwide and the second largest monoammonium phosphate (MAP) and diammonium phosphate (DAP) producer in the world (excluding China).
