LONDON (ICIS)--EMS increased net sales for the first nine months of 2013 by 7% year on year to Swiss francs (Swfr) 1.44bn ($1.58bn), driven by its core high performance polymers business, the Switzerland-based chemicals group said in an update on Friday.

EMS’ high performance polymers sales rose 10.1% year on year to Swfr 1.24bn in the January-September period.

High performance polymers accounted for 86% for EMS’s overall nine-month sales. Meanwhile, nine-month sales in EMS specialty chemicals business fell 8.6% year on Swfr201m

“Successfully realised new specialty business more than compensated for the market-related sales drop in Europe,” the company said.

EMS expects that the overall economic situation should remain favourable in coming months, it said.

“In Europe the downturn may gradually reach the bottom, growth in Asia and North America may become slower,” it added.
