SINGAPORE (ICIS)--China’s Baotou Sea Level Polymer Industry plans to restart its 320,000 dry metric tonne (dmt)/year caustic soda unit in Inner Mongolia late in the week of 14 October, a company source said on Tuesday.

The company shut the unit on 14 October for 4-5 days of maintenance, the source said.

The operating rate of the unit is expected to be increased to full capacity from 70%, the rate prior to the shutdown, when it restarts, the source added.

The producer offered 32% liquid membrane caustic soda at yuan (CNY) 1,600/dmt ($262/dmt), and 48% liquid membrane caustic soda at CNY1,450/dmt on 15 October, unchanged from the previous week, according to Chemease, an ICIS service in China.

The expected increase in liquid caustic soda supply following the restart is likely to restrain the price uptrend in the Inner Mongolia market, a local market player said.
