LONDON (ICIS)--Acetone imports into the EU from the rest of the world increased year on year in July and August, but while exports from the EU rose in July, they fell in August, according to Eurostat released on Monday.

In July 2013, imports from the rest of the world increased by 55.01% year on year, while in August imports rose steeply. Reduced operating rates in primary product phenol was the main factor behind the higher import levels.

In July 2013, exports of acetone increase by 81.54% year on year, while in August they decreased by 48.10%.

Demand for phenol remained weak during the peak summer months resulting in ongoing cuts in its production. For every tonne of phenol produced, 0.62 tonnes of acetone is made.
