LONDON (ICIS)--Melamine imports into the EU surged by 84% year on year in July and rose by 8% year on year in August, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed on Monday.
July imports amounted to 5,123 tonnes, compared with 2,777 tonnes in the same month last year, while August's figure was 5,942 tonnes, compared with 5,498 tonnes in August 2012.
Exports out of the EU were down year on year in both July and August, by 24% and 17% respectively.
July exports were 8,903 tonnes, compared with 11,735 tonnes in July 2012, while August exports amounted to 9,815 tonnes, a fall from 11,846 tonnes in the same month last year.
Eurostat import/export data is subject to revision as more detailed information becomes available.
