LONDON (ICIS)--EU emulsion styrene butadiene rubber (E-SBR) imports increased in August, while exports were up slightly compared to the same period a year earlier, data from statistics agency Eurostat showed on Monday.

Imports rose by 56%, while exports were up by 1%.

Imports increased on the back of cheaper Asian E-SBR spot prices, which opened an arbitrage window between the two regions. In addition, imports from Russia have continued to compete strongly with western-European E-SBR prices, despite weak demand.

European Union remains a net exporter of E-SBR, despite facing competition when other areas are cheaper.
