Correction: In the ICIS story headlined “EU ethanol August imports and exports rise year on year: Eurostat” dated 22 October 2013, incorrect Eurostat import/export trade data for ethanol had been published. This has been replaced with a corrected story now headlined “EU imports of denatured ethanol plummet in August: Eurostat” which contains amended Eurostat import/export trade data for denatured ethanol during July and August throughout.

LONDON (ICIS)--EU denatured ethanol imports from the rest of the world fell steeply in August 2013 year on year, according to data from statistics agency Eurostat on Tuesday.

EU imports of denatured ethanol in August 2013 stood at 1,495 tonnes, down considerably from 12,099 tonnes in the same month last year. EU exports of denatured ethanol over the same period rose to 597 tonnes from 505 tonnes.

Import volumes in July 2013 fell significantly to 2,487 tonnes compared with 7,463 tonnes in July 2012. However, July exports from the EU more than doubled to 1,562 tonnes from 780 tonnes over the same period.

Eurostat import/export data is subject to revision as more detailed information becomes available.
