LONDON (ICIS)--Versalis' solution styrene butadiene rubber (S-SBR) plant in Grangemouth, the UK, is still running to capacity despite the ongoing shutdown of petrochemical units at the site operated by INEOS, a source at the Italy-based producer said on Tuesday.
The source added Versalis, normally served by butadiene (BD) feedstock from INEOS, had doubled alternative BD feedstock supply. It also said the company was just covering contract obligations.
Versalis expects a BD production restart announcement from INEOS and hoped one would be given by the end of the week, the source added.
“The situation is very fluid,” the source said.
The S-SBR plant has capacity to produce 30,000 tonnes/year, according to ICIS data.
