LONDON (ICIS)--Ethylbenzene (EB) imports into the EU from the rest of the world were down in July 2013 compared with the same period last year, data from European statistics agency Eurostat showed this week.

This was also a sharp decline from the previous month, when almost 10,000 tonnes of EB was imported into the EU amid tightened availability on styrene owing to various shutdowns earlier in 2013.

Exports were also up during this period, although the volumes involved were negligible. August saw little to no EB imports or exports from the EU in either year.

EB is a highly captive product that is used in the production of styrene, with the majority of EB/SM (styrene monomer) units integrated, meaning that little if any material moves between global regions.
