SINGAPORE (ICIS)--South Korea’s Lotte Chemical restarted its 400,000 tonne/year No 2 purified terephthalic acid (PTA) unit in Ulsan on 24 October after completing maintenance at the unit, a company source said on Friday.
The plant’s shutdown was extended by a week from the initial schedule of five days because of high inventory pressure, the source said.
PTA demand weakened since September because of a slowdown of downstream polyester demand in the Chinese and Indian markets.
Meanwhile, Lotte Chemical is pushing back a planned three-day shutdown at its 650,000 tonne/year No 3 PTA unit at the same site to early November from end-October, the source said.
