HOUSTON (ICIS)--US exports of methyl di-p-phenylene isocyanate (MDI) in August 2013 were up by 58% from August 2012, according to data made available by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) on Monday.
MDI exports in August 2013 rose to 1,325 tonnes from 841 tonnes in August 2012.
Month on month, exports were up by 43% in August from 927 tonnes in July 2013, the ITC said.
Through August, exports decreased by 6% to 7,400 tonnes, compared with 7,847 tonnes in the first eight months of 2012, according to the ITC.
The decrease from 2012 year-to-date to 2013 year-to-date was a result of smaller volumes being shipped to Brazil.
Top destinations for US MDI so far in 2013 were Mexico (2,824 tonnes), Brazil (1,728 tonnes), and Taiwan (669 tonnes).
US MDI suppliers are Bayer MaterialScience, Huntsman, BASF and Dow Chemical.
