HOUSTON (ICIS)--US methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) imports more than doubled for August from the same month in 2012, according to data released Monday by the International Trade Commission (ITC).
Overall MIBK imports increased to 1,426 tonnes in August, up from 650 tonnes in August 2012.
South Africa continued to be the main importer of MIBK, nearly doubling imports. Imports from South Africa increased to 1,254 tonnes from 650 tonnes. South Africa is one of the world’s largest MIBK producers.
Mexico also imported MIBK to the United States, with 172 tonnes in August 2013 after importing none in 2012.
Overall MIBK exports fell 65% year on year for August. The United States exports very little MIBK. The countries that the US exports to are China, Canada, Chile and Australia.
