MELBOURNE (ICIS)--Japan’s Mitsubishi Chemical plans to shut its phenol/acetone and bisphenol-A (BPA) plants in 2014 for annual maintenance, a company source said on Tuesday.

The exact schedule has not been finalised. However, the maintenance will probably take place in May 2014 and last for one to one and half months, the source said.

Mitsubishi Chemical’s phenol/acetone plant in Kashima, which can produce 250,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 150,000 tonnes/year of acetone, was last shut in May 2012 for an overhaul.

Its 100,000 tonne/year BPA unit in Kashima and 120,000 tone/year BPA unit in Kurosaki were last taken off line in May 2012 to undergo maintenance.
