HOUSTON (ICIS)--US acrylic acid exports for August were more than double year-ago levels, according to US International Trade Commission (ITC) data, and reflected domestic oversupply amid soft-but-improved demand, sources said on Tuesday.

Taiwan recieved 3,000 tonnes, or 45% of the month’s total exports. Rounding out the top three destinations were Mexico, which took 1,317 tonnes, and Brazil, which took 1,056 tonnes.

Imports were exponentially higher, indicating stronger demand than last year, despite the late start to the 2013 spring coatings season largely because of inclement weather.

Most import volume derived from Germany, which shipped to the US 2,091 tonnes, or 76% of August’s imports.

Month on month, imports rose by 44%, the ITC said.

US acrylic acid suppliers include Dow Chemical, BASF, Sasol and Arkema Emulsion Systems.
