HOUSTON (ICIS)--US titanium dioxide (TiO2) exports rose only marginally in August compared with the same month one year ago, reflecting a stable yet soft and amply supplied market, sources said on Tuesday.

Exports of US TiO2 increased to 49,956 tonnes in August from 49,268 tonnes 12 months earlier, a gain of just over 1%, according to data released by the US International Trade Commission (ITC).

Belgium led destinations with 13,111 tonnes, or 26% of total shipments. That volume was twice to three times more than was shipped to the three next-largest buyers – South Korea, Mexico and Canada, respectively.

Import volumes fell in August to 11,991 tonnes from 13,243 tonnes one year earlier, a decline of 9%. However, August import volume was 14% lower than in July, when latent coatings demand may have peaked, some sources suggested.

North American TiO2 producers include DuPont, Cristal, Kronos, Tronox and Huntsman.
