Pirelli to invest $200m in Brazil to make bus, truck tyres

CAMPINAS, Brazil (ICIS)--Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli plans to invest up to $200m (€146m) in Brazil to produce a new line of radial tyres for trucks and buses, the company said on Wednesday.

The investments are expected to be completed by 2015, it said.

According to a Pirelli spokesperson, the tyres are already being produced at its plants in Santo Andre in Sao Paulo state and Gravatai in Rio Grande do Sul state.

By 2014, the company expects its 01 Series radial tyres to be widely used in the South American market, it said.

Pirelli said its new tyres could reduce fuel consumption by up to 2%

Tyres are made with styrene butadiene rubber (SBR).
